Change Your Mindset To Create Business Growth
Whether you own a business or are part of another organization, there comes a time where growth is inevitable. You now find yourself having to stretch beyond all that you have done and explore the unknown. Having fear about this is normal. What should not be normalized is avoiding the challenge because challenges will always teach us what we need to learn for the next time. Yes, it is far easier said than done. So, here are some practical ways to face the fear and do it anyway:
Get Clear
Affirm
Seek Accountability
GET CLEAR
When you begin to process the weight of your next endeavor, it will initially be overwhelming. You have never done this before. What if you fail? The best thing that you can do, is to take the time to get very specific about what you are aspiring to do. If you are familiar with SMART goals, that's a good resource to start with. As you solidify the details of this BHAG (big hairy audacious goal, Google it), be sure to do this in an environment where there is little noise or distraction. Use this as an opportunity to check in with yourself and be certain that you are sufficiently excited and slightly terrified.
AFFIRM
So, now that you have your BHAG, the real work starts. This new journey that you are on is going to require that you establish new habits and do them consistently. One of the most impactful and simplest habits you can create is saying affirmations aloud everyday, at least once each day. This can simply be reciting the goal as if it is already accomplished. You can also look for others that already exist in books or from an internet search. My recommendation is that you say the affirmation(s) in a mirror to reinforce that you are speaking to yourself. There's something very special about looking yourself in the eyes while saying empowering words. You are quite literally programming yourself into alignment with the accomplishment of your goal(s). In the beginning, it may feel awkward if you are not fully bought into the belief of these affirmations. But that's okay because part of the purpose of doing this is to exercise your belief muscle.
SEEK ACCOUNTABILITY
Why is accountability important in this context? Well, your new endeavor will not happen overnight and you will need support. This support can come in many forms because there are multiple dynamics at play. This does not include friends, family and co-workers (you are stretching, remember?). Suggested support can come in the form of therapy/counseling, coaching or masterminds, to name a few. It will be up to you to determine the array of resources that work for you. However, the general idea is that you invite another into your journey to help you face your fear in order to grow into who you need to be to achieve your BHAG. Changing is uncomfortable, unfamiliar and tempting to escape from. But you don't have to do it alone. Making the investment required to bring in a third-party elevates your level of belief and takes you out of your comfort zone. Your success is on the other side of all of this.
